Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important political figure commented the attack left him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
